Osso Lungo is our exciting new movement prop for studios and home! Osso (bone) and Lungo (long) is Italian for “long bone” and was inspired by needs in our own Pilates studios. Osso Lungo has similar design aesthetics to Osso Corto (short bone), but has its own unique applications and exercises.
Our Pilates teachers needed a bar that was adaptable to all types of Pilates equipment, whether it be the Reformer, Wunda Chair, Trapeze Table, Gyrotonic Tower or Core-Align. Importantly however, Osso Lungo can be used independently of Pilates equipment for standing, seated or floor work. Osso Lungo facilitates shoulder scaption (scapular plane elevation) as well as hand and feet placement.
The stylish, ergonomic contours of Osso Lungo make it comfortable to hold, with the flowing convex and concave curves making it easy to find an optimal hand placement and grip, even for those with strength issues such as osteoarthritis.
Lungo’s size and the Spotted Gum hardwood we use means it weighs in at 1kg, noticeably heavier than a plain stick and with sufficient weight to assist with muscle activation and the correct performance of movement exercises.
And like its smaller cousin the Corto, the Lungo includes a centrally placed “eye” so you can keep your vision focused whilst you move. This assists keeping your head, neck and shoulders aligned in a smooth curve throughout the motion.
Each Lungo comes with two stylish multi-purpose straps which beautifully complement Lungo’s Spotted Gum hardwood, with tan webbing, brass D-rings and MAKARLU G-hooks. The straps are ideal for attaching your Lungo to things like our Pebble pods, Pilates reformer springs, straps or bands to add some interesting variety to your routines.

Osso Lungo is made from sustainable materials such as beautiful Spotted Gum from Crafted Hardwoods, an innovative Australian company working with hardwood timber that is often overlooked — smaller logs or pieces considered “too imperfect” for traditional milling. Through innovation inspired by nature, these resources are given new life as strong, stable hardwood with unique grain and character. Read more about MAKARLU and the Crafted Hardwoods process.
We hand-coat the Spotted Gum hardwood with a high quality hardwax oil so it’s pleasant and warm to the touch. The coating allows the wood to breathe by integrating with it, rather than creating a skin. The oil is made from natural, sustainable raw materials (such as beeswax, carnauba wax and jojoba oil) and is non-toxic (food and toy safe, safe on bare skin).

Osso Corto is 76cm long by 5cm diameter at its widest point, 3cm diameter at its narrowist. At 1kg it’s sufficiently heavy to assist with muscle activation and the correct performance of movement exercises.
