Inspired by Nature.

MAKARLU Lotus was inspired by the beauty and elegance of the blossoming lotus flower and seed pod. The distinctive surface contours, textures, and sizes of each of the Nesting Domes and Rocker Base make Lotus versatile and adaptable, and provide therapeutic pressure to the skin, fascia, and muscles.

Designed for Movement.

Our products are thoughtfully designed to accommodate a wide range of needs. Whether for movement and exercise, self massage, specific rehab goals, or training of highly conditioned performers and athletes – Lotus will help to release, relax, stretch, strengthen, and mobilise the whole body – from head to feet and anywhere in between.

Where exceptional materials underpin timeless design.

Created for those who want to improve how they move and feel – with a focus on functionality, versatility, sustainability, & elegance.

Like a Matryoshka doll, the 3 Nesting Domes and Rocker Base of Makarlu Lotus fit snugly together. The components can be used individually, or in combination with each other in countless configurations.

The distinctive sizes, textures and contours of each component of Makarlu Lotus provide unique tactile input, fascial grip, and treatment focus. The all-in-one versatility means that Makarlu Lotus is suitable for the whole body – from head to feet and anywhere in between.

Versatile and Adaptable

Use Makarlu Lotus in different ‘configurations’ for a wide range of ‘applications’.

Compact and Portable

Take Makarlu Lotus with you wherever you go, whether to the studio or gym, work or home, or while travelling.

Large dome – Diameter 12cm (4.7″) – Blossum covered with nodules in the form of petals

Medium domeDiameter 9cm (3.5″) – Seed pod with dimpled texture

Small dome – Diameter 6cm (2.4″) – Seed with firm, smooth, soft-to-touch texture

Rocker Base and Mat – Diameter 14cm (5.5″) – Crafted from Australian Spotted Gum or East Asian Bamboo

The 3 Nesting Domes design feature lets you vary the firmness of your Makarlu Lotus set, by adding or removing inner domes.

The range of firmnesses is helpful for accommodating individual needs, or to use on different areas of the body.

Don’t just use Makarlu Lotus on the floor – magnetic attraction lets you also use the domes vertically by sticking them to your fridge, filing cabinet, car, poles, and more.

Using the Lotus domes vertically and ‘hands-free’ makes self massage and gentle mobilisation of stiff muscles and joints that much easier – great for relieving hard to reach niggles and tight points in the back, neck, shoulders, and glutes.

This feature is also useful for moderating pressure to suit individual preference, and can benefit those who are unable to get up and down from the floor easily. Position a dome or combination of domes exactly where needed, then fine-tune the pressure by gradually leaning or pushing harder – something that can be more difficult to control when lying on the floor on top of massage balls, golf balls, tennis balls, foam rollers, etc.

Makarlu Lotus comes with an embroidered drawstring carry bag. Our bags are made from heavyweight black canvas and features French seams, double drawstrings, and two inner pockets. There’s a pocket for each Makarlu Lotus, or travel with a single set and use the other pocket for your possessions.

Our Makarlu Lotus bags were inspired by the elegant simplicity of ‘kinchaku’, a traditional Japanese drawstring carry bag or pouch. Kinchaku is a small bag worn like a purse or handbag, typically used for carrying around personal possessions like money, lucky charms, medicines and cosmetics.

Kin’ means fabric.

Chaku’ means to put on.

How do you MAKARLU?

With the interplay of different sizes, contours, and degrees of firmness, the potential applications for Lotus are seemingly endless. From myofascial release, massage, and stretching through to sensory, strength, and balance challenges – there is a lot you can do with MAKARLU.

Much more than the sum of its parts.

The components of Lotus can be used individually, or in combination with each other in a range of configurations.

Where function blends with form.

Our Rocker Bases are crafted from a selection of beautiful real timbers.

Australian Spotted Gum

Known for its striking appearance and a high degree of natural durability and strength, our sustainably-sourced Spotted Gum is one of Australia’s premium hardwoods. Architects and designers value Spotted Gum timber for its grain structure, attractive markings and vibrant colour palette. It’s robust, and is often used to make fine furniture, polo sticks, baseball bats and boats.

The colour of its heartwood can range from light brown through to dark red-brown hues. Like fingerprints and snowflakes, no two Spotted Gum rocker bases are identical. Despite the name, products made from Spotted Gum aren’t covered in spots, the timber earned its name because the smooth greyish-white bark of the corymbia maculata (Spotted Gum) tree is shed in flakes, leaving conspicuous spots.

American Black Walnut

The beautiful grain patterns, rich brown colour and great workability of American Black Walnut puts the wood in a class by itself for architects, designers and woodworking professionals. It’s a popular choice for use in furniture, joinery and other fine woodworking, so it was only natural for Makarlu to include American Black Walnut in its range.

American Black Walnut is native to the eastern regions of North America. The colour of its heartwood ranges from a golden to a rich chocolate brown colour, sometimes with narrow streaks of a darker purplish-brown. American Black Walnut is a fine and generally straight-grained timber, although often it has an attractive wavy or curly grain, giving it a highly decorative figure.

European Ash

European Ash is an important timber in Scandinavian furniture and interior design, and is now bringing its beautiful grain and light tones to the Makarlu range.  European Ash varies from white through to pale brown, making it an attractive option for use in chairs, dining tables, joinery, architectural features and hardwood flooring. In the past this versatile timber was even used in boat and plane building, mainly due to being a strong yet relatively lightweight hardwood.

European Ash is the European equivalent to White Ash of North America, with both woods being light coloured to nearly white, and generally straight-grained with a uniform texture.

East Asian Bamboo

Bamboo holds deep-rooted cultural significance in East Asia, in no small part thanks to its characteristic strength, versatility, rapid growth, and natural regeneration. Musical instruments, furniture, fishing rods, buildings, bridges, textiles and even weapons are some of the traditional and contemporary applications of this majestic plant.

Its high strength-to-weight ratio, sustainable qualities and light earthy colours make East Asian Bamboo a solid option as a Makarlu rocker base.

Bamboo justifiably earns its reputation amongst designers as a sustainable resource because it is amongst the fastest-growing plants in the world. In suitable conditions, bamboo has been known to grow at a rate of one metre per day!

Where art meets sustainable health.

Lotus comes in a range of brilliant colours.

Inspired by the blue lotus flower, the vivid tones of Blue will add to the atmosphere of any environment. It’s striking, yet soothing.

Magenta provides a bright splash of colour reminiscent of the pink lotus blossom. It’s vibrant and not at all subtle.

Midnight Black

The neutral, dark shades of Midnight Black will compliment all settings. It’s contemporary and classic style all at once.
